  • Sugriva allied with Rama after Rama killed his brother Vali. In return, Sugriva commanded the vanara army that searched for Sita and invaded Lanka.

Enemy of
  • Vali and Sugriva, once brothers ruling Kishkindha together, became mortal enemies when Sugriva sealed the cave entrance during Vali's fight with the demon Mayavi, believing Vali dead. Vali survived, accused Sugriva of treachery, drove him into exile on Rishyamukha, and seized his wife Ruma.

Associated with
  • Lakshmana stormed into Kishkindha with bow drawn when Sugriva broke his promise to help find Sita, spending months in revelry instead. His fury shook the Vanara king into action, reminding Sugriva that the same arrows that killed Vali could find him too.
