  • Vishwamitra came to Dasharatha's court and demanded the young Rama to protect his sacrifice from rakshasas. He trained Rama and Lakshmana in celestial weapons, led them to slay the demoness Tataka, and guided them to Janaka's court where Rama won Sita by breaking Shiva's bow.

  • Vishwamitra arrived at Vasishtha's ashram as a conquering king and demanded the wish-granting cow Kamadhenu, but Vasishtha's cow routed his entire army with warriors born from her milk — a humiliation that drove Vishwamitra to renounce kingship, undertake millennia of tapas, and wage a generations-long rivalry with the brahmarishi who had effortlessly defeated him.

  • Vishwamitra came to Dasharatha's court requesting Rama's aid against the demons Maricha and Subahu who were disrupting his sacrifices. Despite his anguish at sending his son into danger, Dasharatha relented after Vasishtha counseled that the sage's mission served a divine purpose.

  • When Indra and the gods hurled King Trishanku back from heaven headfirst, Vishwamitra caught him midfall and, burning with rage, created an entire rival heaven in the southern sky to receive the king — a feat so audacious the gods had to negotiate a compromise that left Trishanku hanging upside-down among new stars for eternity.
