Mythology & Lore

Freya's Daughter

Snorri names Hnoss in the Gylfaginning as a daughter of Freya and Óðr. She was so beautiful, he writes, that "whatever is beautiful and precious is called hnossir" after her. Her sister Gersemi bore a name with the same meaning. Neither appears in any surviving Eddic poem or saga beyond this single passage.
