Mythology & Lore
The Rescue of Thor
Magni's name means "Strength," and he earned it at three days old. After Thor's duel with Hrungnir, the slain giant's massive stone leg fell across Thor's neck, pinning him to the ground. A shard of Hrungnir's whetstone lodged in Thor's skull. Every god who came to the field tried to move the leg. None could shift it.
Then Magni arrived. He was the son of Thor and the giantess Járnsaxa, three days out of the womb. He lifted the leg with one hand and tossed it aside. He told his father he wished he had come sooner so he could have killed the giant with his bare fists. Thor gave him Hrungnir's horse Gullfaxi on the spot, a gift that annoyed Odin, who felt such a horse should have gone to him.
Inheritor of Mjölnir
Magni and his brother Móði survive Ragnarök. After Thor kills Jörmungandr and falls to the serpent's venom nine steps later, the brothers will carry Mjölnir into the new world that rises from the sea.
