Thor slew Þrymr and all the giants in his hall after recovering Mjölnir at the mock wedding feast, as told in the Þrymskviða.
The jötnar are the primordial race of giants descended from Ymir, dwelling in Jötunheimr. They stand as the eternal adversaries and reluctant kin of the Æsir — many gods count giantesses among their mothers, yet the two races clash across every age until Ragnarök.
In the Þrymskviða, the giant Þrymr steals Thor's hammer and demands Freya as his bride in return. Freya refuses in such fury that the Brísingamen bursts from her neck, forcing Thor to disguise himself as the bride instead.
Loki borrowed Freyja's falcon cloak and flew to Jötunheim, where he found Þrymr sitting on a mound braiding golden leashes for his hounds. Þrymr freely admitted he had buried Mjölnir eight leagues deep and would return it only for Freyja as his bride.
Þrymr, king of the frost giants, stole Mjölnir and demanded Freya as his bride for its return. In the Þrymskviða, Thor disguised himself as Freya and recovered the hammer at the wedding feast.
