At the end of time, the river of molten metal that purifies every soul flows from his charge.
Mythology & Lore
The Crystalline Dome
Each Amesha Spenta guards one of the seven creations. The Bundahishn assigns Khshathra Vairya two: metals and the sky. It describes the sky as a dome of crystalline stone enclosing the world, and beneath it, every ore vein and forged implement falls under his protection. A month of the Zoroastrian calendar bears his Middle Persian name, Shahrevar.
His Avestan name means "Desirable Dominion." The Gathas invoke him in Yasna 28, 31, and 51, where Zoroaster calls for rule that benefits those governed. His demonic counterpart is Saurva, who turns authority toward violence and exploitation. The Bundahishn pairs them: each Amesha Spenta is locked in struggle with a specific archdaeva.
The River of Molten Metal
At the Frashokereti, the final renovation of the world, a river of molten metal will flow across the earth. The metal belongs to Khshathra Vairya's charge. The Bundahishn says it will feel like warm milk to the righteous and burn the wicked clean. Not destroy them. Purify them.
When the metal has done its work, every soul will be restored and every body resurrected. The dominion the Gathas promised will be the only rule remaining.
