Bamsi Beyrek and Banı Çiçek were betrothed in youth, separated for sixteen years by his captivity, and reunited when he returned in disguise and proved himself by stringing the bow no other man could draw — their wedding feast at last completing the longest courtship in Oghuz legend.
Dede Korkut gave Bamsi Beyrek his name after the young hero's first great deed, and later played a pivotal role in rescuing him from sixteen years of captivity among the infidels.
