Mythology & Lore
The Whirlwind
A person walking through the forest might encounter a sudden wind. Not ordinary weather but Aja herself, manifesting as a whirlwind that sweeps the chosen one off the path and into the spirit realm. The abducted disappear for days, weeks, or sometimes years. During this time they reside with Aja in a place beyond ordinary geography, learning the properties of plants: which leaves cure fever, which roots stop bleeding, and how to combine them into medicines that defy explanation.
Aja's name connects to the Yoruba word for "wild" or "wind." She does not negotiate or explain. She takes, she teaches, and eventually she releases.
The Healer's Return
When Aja releases her students, they emerge from the forest transformed. They are now onisegun, herbalists whose knowledge seems to come from nowhere the community can account for. They identify plants by smell or touch and know the incantations that activate a plant's hidden power.
Some families maintain herbal traditions for generations, tracing their knowledge back to an ancestor whom the whirlwind took and the forest returned.
