Paired with Ayar Cachi in the founding journey from Tambo Toco, Mama Ipacura lost her partner when his own brothers sealed him inside a cave. She walked on with the remaining siblings to found the Inca capital at Cusco.

Sister of the Founders
When the four Ayar brothers and their four sister-wives emerged from the caves of Tambo Toco near Pacaritambo to begin the journey to Cusco, Mama Ipacura stood among them. In Sarmiento de Gamboa's account, she was paired with Ayar Cachi, the brother whose supernatural sling could shatter mountains. She was the first of the sisters to lose her partner: when the other brothers tricked Ayar Cachi back into the cave and sealed the entrance behind him, Mama Ipacura walked on without him into the unknown highlands ahead. The chronicles preserved her name in the founding roster without recording individual deeds.
