In East Slavic folk belief, Poludnitsa is identified as the wife of Polevoy, together ruling the grain fields as a complementary pair of field spirits.
The Leshy and the Polevoy gamble with each other, wagering the creatures of their domains. When the Leshy loses, deer and hares wander into the open fields; when the Polevoy loses, field mice flee into the forest.
